HALF VEDA

In mid-August and for a short period of time before the "general" season, when the summer period begins to enter its decline, the heat wave decreases and the mornings and evenings begin to be cooler, the half closed season for pigeons, quail and turtledoves begins, when the authorities also decree it for the latter species.

In Santa Marta, thanks to the abundance of food and water in the vast area of the farm, there are numerous passes and places where the elusive migratory birds have their changing preferences and habits, where they can be hunted.

It is the uncertainty -not the scarcity- of this hunting modality that makes it so exciting. It is possible one day to reach a large perch and the next day not to shoot once because of the changing and capricious behavior of the dove and turtledove, whose habits can change from one day to the next depending on the climatic circumstances, such as a storm the afternoon before the hunt or a change of wind during the hunt. Such vicissitudes make this form of hunting, precisely because it is uncertain, together with the spectacular and diverse hunting sets that they achieve, a preferred modality by numerous purist amateurs who practice it.
